The American Salon Green Book Directory, which contains the most updated statistics on the professional beauty and hair salon industry may have the statistics you need. It's a little pricey at $225 for the 2006 edition (previous years are cheaper), but if it means getting the bank loan you need, you may want to purchase it (or try your library if they have a copy of it). This publication may have the statistics you need

You may also want to check the archives of the American Salon Magazine to check if they have this data

Another possible resource is Diagonal Reports, a research firm specializing in the beauty industry. While the 2006 edition for the US market is going to be released only in March, you may want to check their previous editions to see if they have the statistics you need

I suggest contacting these publications first and checking if they have the data you want before you purchase their product.
Hope the above resources help

For information on starting a business visit http://www.powerhomebiz.comWhere do I obtain information on the differences in hair salons.?
Why not just call them using the phonebook and ask them outright? Or use the internet? Tell them you are making a census and need to ask a few Q's. W/the info. you get fr. them you could make a pie chart. For what its worth most hair stylist perfer a set booth rental fee instead of getting commision b/c then they can charge whatever they want %26amp; keep it %26amp; vice versa. It really depends on the person. What about the Better Business Bureau? Im not sure, but it doesn't hurt to check it out.
